"The hotel is not at the city center of Lagos but in a walking distance. The facilities are generally good, but some of them are pretty old and need some repair. For example the toilet door in my room could not close properly as it’s cracked. The breakfast is not too bad. The swimming pools are nice."

The MN56 Hotel

The MN56 Hotel

📍 R. Marreiros Netto 56, Lagos
★★★★ 9.8 (48 reviews)

"I stopped in the town of Lagos for a day during a business trip and thought Hotel 56 was quite nice. It's a boutique design hotel, and the hotel manager told me it just opened this year. It's a renovated 200-year-old house with three floors and 22 rooms, and you can tell the hotel's decor and details show a lot of care. It was off-season, so it wasn't crowded. They close from December to February for the holidays. The front desk manager, Christopher, was very professional and patient! He talked to me a lot about local history and introduced nearby attractions and restaurants. The breakfast was à la carte, and everything was amazing. I rented a car, and after unloading my luggage at the entrance, I had to park in a parking lot a three-minute walk away."

📍 Rua Manuel João Paulo Rocha, nº 13, 1D, Lagos
★★★ 9.2 (1 reviews)

"Lagos has many hills, and this house requires walking up a very steep slope. The lack of a washing machine is a bit inconvenient, but there is a dishwasher and a laundry room a two-minute walk away. Gas and an electric stove are also available, which is quite convenient. There are several large supermarkets nearby, and a huge Chinese-owned convenience store is a 3-minute walk away. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the Old Town and about a 15-minute walk to Marina. There are four rooms in total, but the soundproofing isn't very good, especially in the hallway and bathroom. The curtains in my room were broken and looked quite old when I checked in on the first day. I contacted the agent via WhatsApp but didn't get a reply. The second day, it was very bright, and I was woken up by the light around 5 or 6 am. They called in the afternoon... They said they could come to fix it and asked when I'd be home. Luckily, I was free, so I waited for them to come. When I first arrived, the Wi-Fi wasn't working either. Later, the staff fixing the curtains said it was probably expired a long time ago, and they bought a new card and replaced it while they were fixing the curtains. The key pick-up point is a bit far from the house, a 15-minute walk, which isn't very convenient. Also, the path is made of small bricks, making it a bit difficult to walk with luggage, and there are many slopes. However, taxis are very cheap. The lock downstairs is a bit difficult to open; it requires some skill. I couldn't open it at first. The price is very competitive. I booked quite late, around 100 euros for five nights, which is excellent. Strangely, the house only had shampoo, not shower gel. I suspect the staff just put it there randomly because they all look the same except for their names. There were no extra charges at check-in, and a simple breakfast was provided every day. Although I was alone, they still prepared enough for two people."

★★ 8.9 (51 reviews)

"My boyfriend and I chose to reserve a private room at the hostel due to the good reviews and accessibility to City center/beaches. The room was very clean, spacious, bright windows and a wonderful shared balcony. Evo was the GREATEST hostel staff- major shoutout to our guy. Pool is warm and the rooftop brings a ton of energy. Warning- it is loud in the hallways and with doors shutting. Bring some earplugs. Also, it’s very safe!"

Vila Valverde Design Country Hotel Hotels in Lagos

Vila Valverde Design Country Hotel

"A beautiful rural hotel with private guest access and spacious, well-kept gardens. The pool is small, but with only 15 rooms in the hotel, it never feels crowded. There are very comfortable Balinese-style loungers available. The lobby is stunning, with gorgeous decor that really sets the tone. Rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a large and pleasant shower. The room decor could be improved, as it doesn’t quite match the overall style of the hotel. Unfortunately, the hairdryer provided was low quality—not what you’d expect from a five-star property. We also encountered a significant ant problem in the hallway leading to two rooms, including ours. We reported it to the staff, who did their best to help, but they were aware of an ongoing infestation. It really needs to be addressed, as ants were getting into the room and even into our luggage. Despite that, our overall stay was wonderful."

"We have stayed here 5 times in total, but will not be back. I’ve always had a good rapport with the owner (over email), but she didn’t even seem bothered to reply, prior to our stay. While there, she sent a cleaner down to the pool area to tell us (a group of 4) to be quiet, as long stay guests were trying to read their books. No compromise, no discussion. We have since found a nice spot in Alvor, where all guests are treated with respect, and the food offering is far superior."

"PROS: Met me with a bottle of sparkling wine and a cake in the room on my birthday. That was really nice. Nice wine. Great location. CONS: : As to the total design of room I was a bit disappointed. The pictures looked nicer than in reality. I had Deluxe Room. The terrace is situated so inconvenient—> it follows another on in front. So no privacy at all. The distance b/w 2 terraces less than a meter. Pool is super small. It is situated in the area of bar and breakfast zone. I think it is uncomfortable to use it. For maximum 2 people. Breakfast is not cost its money. Everyday the same Tiny reception. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel—> price vs value."

"We were on holiday with our 3-year-old daughter and we loved it!! The hotel is very quiet, far from the crowds that the Algarve often has, and it's only a 5-minute drive from Praia da Luz beach. It's not luxurious, but everything is very tidy, well-maintained and clean, and it has a very nice outdoor pool area. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, and the breakfast was very good. We always had dinner at the hotel and it was all great too, a buffet dinner with very well-prepared food, we liked everything! And I have to highlight the friendliness of all the staff, especially the gentleman in charge of the dining area, he was very kind to us and very attentive to details for our daughter. The only less good aspect to mention is really the dinner time, which is only served until 9 pm. We found it too early for someone on holiday and in the middle of the summer season, when you try to enjoy the beaches as much as possible. In our opinion, this is the only aspect that could be improved, at least during the summer season."

"During my 4-day stay, I managed to enjoy a bit of everything, from the outdoor and indoor pools to the sauna. There's free parking available near the hotel, so there's no need to use the underground parking (unless it's high season). The room boasts a beautiful view from the ninth floor, although I feel that certain finishes should be rectified for such a new, 5-star hotel; the balcony floor seems a bit loose, and the bathroom door drags on the floor. The area is a bit windy, which you can feel through the window at night when it's quiet, but it's nothing too major. Breakfast was 'average'; I missed having natural juice, which I think would be justified given the price. The pool bar also does a good job, and their wraps/sandwiches are tasty. The sun loungers are also very comfortable."

"We were supposed to stay at the hotel for 3 nights, arrived on a Saturday and left on Tuesday. On Monday we only got cleaning - which I'm not a fan of as the room quickly got dirty on the floor. We had 2 single beds in the room, the beds were hard but not uncomfortable to sleep in (we slept fantastically) and the duvets and pillows were very comfortable to use. The fridge in the room didn't work (fortunately we had bought food for it). The breakfast was nice, but not a big selection. The pool and area were nice and clean - and there was room for many. The staff seemed very friendly. The hotel is within walking distance of the town/harbor. All in all a nice hotel, but we would probably choose something else for our next visit to try something new."

"This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at and that's from a person who has been to 56 countries (so I have been to a few!). In hostels there will always be an odd person who has an issue and leaves a bad review. This hostel is well run with great staff - it is the cleanest hostel you will find - the pool on the rooftop is great depending on the time of year you visit. I've stayed 4 times - 3 times in Summer and now once in Spring. It has a nice balance between being a place you can relax or if you wish take advantage on some of their fun things (karaoke, sunset tour, Portuguese dinners etc). Just do it!"

"The location is good, and the male staff member was really friendly! However, I stayed here for 2 nights, and the room was incredibly humid, the bathroom was very old, and the bedding... was truly something else. The bathroom doorknob was so old it felt uncomfortable to touch. While the staff were friendly and the location was good, I regretted my stay a bit... I wish I had paid 100,000 won more and booked somewhere else. Unless you're a traveler who prioritizes value for money above all else, please look at my photos and reconsider!"
